FAQs

Kitesurfing lessons

What if the weather isn't suitable?

All our lessons are wind and weather dependant, normally we can have a good idea 5-7 days before, so we provisionally pencil dates in and we confirm them 2-3 days before.

Do you conduct lessons year round?

Yes we do. The main season is generally April-November as the weather is warmer.

What equipment do you provide during the lessons?

We will provide all the kitesurf equipment & safety gear.
Lesson 1 – Taster session (Land Based) – you will start with the smaller trainer kites
Lessons 2 – 3 (Water based) – you will be using smaller LEI kite depending on your size and wind conditions during the lesson.
Lessons 4 – 5 (Water Based) – you will be using larger LEI kite depending on your size and wind conditions during the lesson and a twin-tip board, harness & helmet.
You will need a wetsuit, these can also be hired locally if you do not have one. Depending on the time of year you may need boots and gloves, should you want these, most surf shops stock them.

Where do you teach your lessons?

We mainly teach at Saunton Sands as we have lots of room but can teach at other locations by prior agreement.

What days do you offer lessons?

We offer lessons 7 days a week, literally everyday there is enough wind.

Wind?

If there is not enough wind on the day of the lesson, the lesson will be rescheduled to another day.
The minimum amount of wind that we teach our land class is 8mph and on the water class requires at least 10-12mph of steady wind both up to 25mph.

What do I need to bring for the lesson?

It would be good to bring a dry towel/pack lunch/sun glasses & sun screen and some relevant clothes depending on the weather to change into afterwards.

I am a good wake boarder / surfer / snow boarder, will I be able to pick up kitesurfing really quick?

Although a background in other board sports is helpful, kitesurfing is 90% kite control. You have to learn the skills necessary to safely control the kite before attempting to ride the board. When you do get up on the board and start riding, having those other sports under your belt will definitely help. Having a background in sailing or wind surfing will also help out in the learning process.

Do I need to be strong to kitesurf?

No, kite surfing is more technique / finesse than physical strength, even children as young as 10 and people as old as 70 kitesurf.

Do you rent kites or boards?

Sorry no, we only provide kites and boards for our students during and possibly after lessons as we cannot rent kites without the supervision of an instructor.
